American Heart Association leaders take the stage at European Society of Cardiology Congress

The American Heart Association’s President Stacey E. Rosen, MD, FAHA, co-moderated a joint session between the European Society of Cardiology, World Heart Federation and the American College of Cardiology on “Cardiometabolic medicine: an interdisciplinary approach to address today’s major health issues.” Presenters included Dhruv Kazi, MD, MSc, MS, FAHA, co-chairperson of the Association’s International Committee, who spoke on ways technology can bridge disparities in cardiometabolic care.
The Association’s Chief Science & Medical Officer Mariell Jessup, MD, FAHA, co-chaired “Great Debate: first line management for cardiogenic shock,” with panelists from Belgium, Bucharest and Paris sharing insights on how to optimally use drugs and devices to manage patient care. She also co-chaired poster presentations on heart failure.
Contributing their expertise to the Congress conversations were the Association’s past presidents and fellows Bob Harrington, MD, FAHA; Clyde Yancy, MD, FAHA; Valentin Fuster, MD, FAHA; and Sid Smith, MD, FAHA, along with the Association’s president-elect Manesh Patel, MD, FAHA and past national board members Jorge Saucedo, MD, FAHA and Ileana Piña, MD, MPH, FAHA.
Roundtable discussions on the latest in cardiovascular research and publishing included Circulation Editor-in-Chief Joseph Hill, MD, PhD, FAHA; Circulation: Heart Failure Editor-in-Chief Nancy K. Sweitzer, MD, FAHA; and Hypertension Editor-in-Chief Rhian M. Touyz, MD, PhD, FAHA.
